Why Trains
Whether for the thrill of high speed, for the convenience and comfort,
or for the spectacular scenery, travelling by train is a unique & memorable experience.
Here are eight key reasons why it makes sense to travel by train:
City Centre to City Centre
Most major train stations are located in the heart of the city. When travelling by train, you can reach the train station minutes before the train departs unlike flights where you need to report a minimum of one hour prior to your flight and you are subjected to security checks & long queues. So travel by train from city centre to city centre and arrive at your destination fresh and relaxed.
Comfort
Trains generally have spacious carriages with comfortable seats and ample legroom. Most scenic trains have huge windows so that you can soak in the spectacular scenery. Also enjoy food on board at the bar-buffet car on most trains. Apart from the scenery you can relax, read a book or watch TV on your I-Pad, make friends with co-passengers or catch up on some sleep.
Flexibility
Most of the scenic journeys and the high speed trains offer multiple journeys on the same day - so if you missed the 10 a.m. train? Just catch the 10:30 or 11 a.m. train instead. Most short trips do not require prior reservations, and you can simply show up at the station the day of your trip and grab a ticket for the next train — without paying an exorbitant last-minute fare. Rail passes also have a great deal of flexibility where you are allowed unlimited travel on the rail network of the country covered and some countries like Switzerland includes their entire transportation network including buses, trams etc with one rail pass.
Go Green
Trains are more energy-efficient per passenger mile than planes or cars, making them one of the most eco-friendly transportation options around (short of walking or riding your bike!). Carbon emissions from trains are less damaging to the environment than those of airplanes because those emissions are not released directly into the upper atmosphere. As a bonus, the relative energy-efficiency of trains means that the industry is less vulnerable to increases in fuel prices making train fares more stable in an unstable economy.
More baggage
Trains allow much more baggage allowance than an airline. you can carry multiple pieces on the train unlike flights where you are allowed only one check in piece of baggage.
Unique Experiences
From high speed trains offering efficient and quick connections between two cities and panoramic trains offering spectacular scenery to luxurious trains, the train journey itself is part of the adventure!
Save Money
Trains have attractive offers from time to time like companion offers, special child discounts, onboard credit offers on luxury trains etc which can result in a considerable saving on your journey. If you are travelling in Europe between cities where the journey is more than 8 hours, you could consider overnight train options to save on the hotel cost.
Old-fashioned charm
There's something refreshingly traditional about taking a train, particularly if you're traveling over a long, multi-night route. The days of silverware and fine china in coach class may be long gone in the airline industry, but on overnight trains you'll still find dining cars with full-service meals and uniformed wait staff.
