The Palace on Wheels presents an opportunity to
discover some of India’s most breathtaking sights in a royal style. This grand
ride will take you through Rajasthan which is known as the land of the Rajputs
and boasts of a glorious past and a rich heritage. Step aboard this imperial
journey which will take you into the past through marvelous monuments, towns,
forts, palaces and havelis. Experience the jungles of the erstwhile Maharajas
and enchantment of the deserts which will make you feel like royalty. The train
is a blend of the traditional and modern. The art décor expresses the sovereign
past of the royal state whereas the ultra-modern amenities are marked by
contemporary affluence and zeal. Engraved furniture, impressive paintings and
classy handicrafts take you to the awe-inspiring past of the land of the Kings.
The Palace on Wheels comprises of 14 charmingly appointed coaches with rich
furnishings and modern facilities.
The train travels mostly during the day while
nights are spent at calm sidings.
Accommodation
The train has 14 air-conditioned carriages, each
with 4 compartments with two lower beds and all 14 salons are named after the
regions of Rajasthan such as Alwar, Bharatpur, Bundi, Chittorgarh, Jaipur,
Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, and Udaipur etc. Each of the coaches has been done up in an
amazingly sumptuous style encompassing miniature paintings, mirror work,
furnishings, and upholstery. Each compartment also has Channel Music system, a
Mini Pantry, attached bathrooms and a personal attendant called a ‘Khidmatgar’.
Curtains and bedspreads in the cabins are made of silk. Each sleeping car has a
lounge at one end.
Dining
Palace on Wheels has two restaurants, suitably
named Maharaja and Maharani, with elegant décor and each serving both
Continental and Indian cuisine. Apart from the table d’hôte meals, the guests
can also indulge themselves in a diverse assortment of a la carte menu. The in
house bar with its authentic ambiance and selection of alcoholic and non-
alcoholic beverages is a part of the on-board experience. The train also has a
lounge to loosen up and chill out after a long day of sightseeing.
