Journeys
Named after the two great oceans it joins and symbolised by the magnificent wedge-tailed eagle that so often soars above it, the mighty Indian Pacific traverses 4,352km (2,698 miles) between Perth and Sydney, twice a week. Almost 300 miles of it is across the longest straight track in the world, the Nullarbor Plain. Travelling between the Indian and Pacific oceans for over 40 years, this truly is one of the world's great train journeys. This epic journey, which spans a continent, travels the whole distance in three days and three nights. Whether your final destination on the Indian Pacific is west to Perth or east to Sydney, you’ll have many opportunities to leave the train and take in some of the region's highlights. With so many wonderful sights to enjoy, this isn’t just one of the longest train journeys in the world, but also one of the most memorable.
The Indian Pacific offers 3 levels of service:
Gold Service Superior Cabin
If you’d like some extra space and comfort, the Gold Service Superior Cabin features a 3/4 size double bed and an additional fold-down single bed (at an additional cost). It has its own lounge area with a table, armchairs, a well-stocked bar fridge with complimentary refreshments, your own private DVD player and a range of finer appointments to make your journey even more special.
Red Service Day/Nighter Seats are two-abreast reclining chairs that can swivel to face each other if you’d like to socialise, with ample leg room and individual reading light. You can take in the views, enjoy the entertainment and information on the video screen or even relax with a drink and a meal in the Red Service Diner. Travel pillows and blankets available for purchase. Shower and toilet facilities available at the end of your carriage.
Platinum & Gold Service guests dine in the elegantly themed Queen Adelaide Restaurant Car. At each meal you will be offered a choice of fine food freshly prepared by the onboard chefs. The seasonal menu features distinctly Australian mouth-watering dishes such as saltwater barramundi and grilled kangaroo fillet. You may choose to complement your meals with a selection of premium Australian wines and beverages available for purchase. Included in your fare are full or continental breakfasts, all onboard lunches and a la carte dinners.
The Outback Explorer Lounge on board the train is often the centre of activity on the journey. The lounge is ideal for socialising with your fellow travellers from around the globe, relaxing, reading or just enjoying the picturesque scenery.
Guests on the Red Service have access to the Matilda Café which has panoramic windows for great views. The Diner offers affordable and tasty light meals, snacks and drinks for purchase. Red Service guests also have access to the Red Gum lounge which is the perfect place to enjoy the panoramic window views, meet new friends, or spend a leisurely afternoon with a good book. Access to the Red Gum Lounge is included in the ticket price for Red Sleeper guests, while those travelling in Red Service Day/Nighter Seats will pay a daily fee of $10 to $15 to use the facility.
Pricing varies based on the journey, cabin preference, season of travel & more.
